  Site Navigation

The screen is landscape oriented, the printed paper is portrait oriented. The display is designed to be dynamic in the way information is viewed which can't be transferred to paper.

Mousing over an icon or highlighted text will show a panel with related details. So you can read all the information in the document without scrolling or having to click on a new heading. Just point at the item.
NB some information is only visible while the mouse is over the icon, others remain in view until another item is selected (mouse pointed to it).

If there is more information on another document, it will also have an arrow icon () to show that a new document will be loaded.

The ZonePad will make it so that you don't have to point.

Zoneguide

The Zoneguide is the thing that takes the zonepad from just another key input method to a dynamic input solution.

Zonepad Introduction

The single handed zonepad is a cross between a keyboard and a mouse, using the advantages of each. It is easy to use on the move and is as convenient to use when you get back to your desk or PC. It can be just as easily used as a remote control for your tv or hifi, in fact all your remote control items, in a way that is easy for you to understand and control. So it becomes a remote control for everything you have including your computer.

It can use the computer screen for its display or use its own. On the move it uses its own, and where there is a larger screen available it uses that.

It fits in your pocket and can be all you need to access the tv/hifi and home entertainment (remote control), the web/emails, your tablet, or your own documents (textprocessor) or the phone (whether it is VoIP or mobile/landline).
Zonepad structure

It has no 'key' markings on it because the actions of the zonekeys are continuously changing. Even the zonekeys themselves are not marked, this leads into the touchtyping approach of knowing where to press.

To be able to find the zonekey by touch (and help touchtyping) the zonepad is embossed.

Where to press is identified by using the Zoneguide.

It's the Zoneguide that takes the zonepad to a new dimension if not a new paradigm.
zonepad keys
Like the keyboard, the zonepad has a number of groups of keys:
Main zonekeys - general zkeys for the current application
ActionKeys - such as Enter, Go, Delete
SystemKeys - Escape, help and system options (needed whatever the application)
PageShiftKeys - similar to the 'shift' key but changing the zonepage (ie the set zonekeys on the zonepage).   OR
where the Zonepage Modifier is used, they become 4 independent cursors or minimal function zonekeys

Options and Functions zonekeys are available, possibly using the top and bottom rows of the zonepage, depending on the application. For example, the text zonepage uses the bottom line for line navigation and deletion.
How the Zoneguide icon is used

The Zoneguide

The Zoneguide is a grid surrounding the zonekeys which uniquely identifies the position of each zonekey.

On the zonepad it fits round the zonekeys.
On the Screen it shows which zonekey does what and where to find it.

The Zoneguide identifies where to press.

The Zoneguide can be used in a number of ways:

As part of the Zonepad layout with icons of actions at the relative position in the Zoneguide
As a table with the Zoneguide showing the position.
As an icon of the Zoneguide, with the text describing the link next to it.
As a simple way to zoom in on a section of the screen - even down to a pixel.
Zonepage Modifier - expanding the potential

The actions of the zonekeys are continually changing depending on the task in hand. For each situation there is a different zonepage - the actions of the set of zonekeys, which are then displayed on the screen.

The zonepage can be changed by individual zonekeys on a particular zonepage or by specific Pageselect zonekeys.

It can have a zonepage modifier which is a set of zonekeys probably controlled by the thumb, that changes the zonepage by a small move in a particular direction. If the points of the compass are used this gives 8 directions (plus the centre).

Either it is active only while being pressed or it sets the zonepage which remains until another zonepage is selected. In this case the centre position may be used to select the default zonepage (ie no zonepage zkey selected).

The modifier zonekeys are identified using arrow icons showing the direction from the centre of the zonepage modifier. eg.

The Zoneguide

The Zoneguide is a grid surrounding the zonekeys which uniquely identifies the position of each zonekey.
On the zonepad it fits round the zone 'zonekeys.
On the Screen it is shows which zonekey does what and where to find it, either by showing the zonekey icons in the same layout as the zonepad or by using the Zoneguide icon to show where to press.
